FAQs (for Tuition):

Why learn with Hayley?

As a self-taught multi-linguist, not only I am able to understand things from my students' perspective, I have tried all the tricks in the book to know exactly what is required for fast and effective language-learning. I always work at a pace that my student's are comfortable with and lessons are always tailored to the student’s individual language needs. I keep myself updated with the curriculum, latest materials and learning/teaching techniques as well as implementing my own successful methods.

What do I need for online lessons?

A good, stable Internet connection, a headset with a microphone (preferred, although earphones can work too). Then I will send you a link to access the class and then you're good to go! A notebook and pen would also come in handy as I also always advise my students to take notes during the lesson when possible (genrally, any notes, corrections and new vocabulary will be stored in the chat) however it has been scientifcally proven  that writing them down by hand can help you retain the information better in your brain!

How do I book a lesson?

The best way to contact me is via email at info@learnwithhayley.com. Don't forget to quote your availability, the language you wish to study, the type of lesson you're interested in, and your own estimated level of study or experience in that language to date.

How much will it cost?

I offer competitive rates which depend on various factors such as the level, type of course and any extra preparation involved im addition to the in-class teaching.

How long is a lesson?

A single online lesson lasts 50 mins. It is also possible to book a double session with a short breakI also offer half sessions (25 minutes) for those who have a tight schedule and wish to fit studying during their lunch break for example.

How do I pay?

I can accept payment via bank transfer, TransferWise or PayPal.

AS A TRANSLATOR & PROOFREADER

LANGUAGE PAIRS OFFERED:

Spanish to English, Italian to English, Portuguese to English.

AREAS OF SPECIALISATION FOR TRANSLATION:

Education, Media, Advertising, Psychology, Social Sciences, Art, History, Travel & Tourism, C.Vs/ Resumes.

These are my main areas of specialisation. It is not an exhaustive list, so if the text you wish to translate does not fit into one of these categories, please feel free to contact me so that I can evaluate your needs.

FAQs (for Translation and Proofreading Services):

How much will it cost?

The cost of translating a text is generally calculated according to the number of words in the original. Translations under 1000 words are a set fee of £60. I always tailor my rates to suit each project according to its subject area, urgency and complexity, so a specialised medical text required ASAP will cost more than a general text with no fixed deadline. If your text is a scanned or a handwritten document, I’ll usually provide a per-page rate according to content and font size.

Proofreading and revision services are charged at £25 per hour.

How long will it take?

Once again, this will depend on the word count, subject, complexity, file format of the text as well as my availability at current time. This is because I will need to carry out all the terminological research required, as well as produce a well-written English version of the text, and proofread it carefully before sending it back.

Why do you translate only into English?

Like all professional translators, I only translate into my native language. This is to ensure that the finished product is an accurate reflection of the original and reads well to a native English reader.

Can't a machine translation program do it for me?

Machine translation is great for getting the gist of a text. But that's about it. If you want a your translation to look professional and be read like it's been written by a real person, only a human will do.

How did I acquire these language skills?

As well as my degree and formal education in these languages, I have spent an extensive period of time living, studying and working Abroad. I have lived, worked and studied in 4 different cities in Spain which has allowed me to develop a deep understanding of the Spanish culture and language (both in a formal business setting and in a social environment). I have also spent time in Portugal whilst studying an Intensive Portuguese Language course in the University of the Algarve as well as having worked as an English Language Assistant in a Secondary school in Pisa, Italy prior to that. In 2012 I became the Head of the English department in a training school in Bahrain where I was able to further improve my Arabic language skills and knowledge of the culture in the Gulf region in addition to my enhancing professional development. In addition to this, I have gained significant language acquisition and practice working as an Interpreter and a Translator for a School in South London for Spanish and Portuguese speaking parents and non English-speaking students of the school.

How do I pay?

I can accept payment via bank transfer, TransferWise or PayPal.

I am a CELTA-qualified EFL Teacher with a bachelor's degree in Spanish and Portuguese from Queen Mary University of London. I currently hold 10 years teaching experience and have taught students from all over the world (both in person and online) and have obtained experience working with both children and adults of all levels and abilities, including those with special educational needs (SEN). In addition to this, I have experience as the Head of the department in both in the U.K and the Gulf region (Bahrain).

I love connecting with people from different cultures and backgrounds which is linked to my passion of learning languages! Besides from English, I also speak Spanish, Portuguese and Italian fluently as well as Arabic (MSA). This can be helpful for students learning English that would feel more confident having a teacher who already has knowledge of their mother-tongue (for example adult beginner learners). As a language learner myself, I know exactly what is required for fast and effective language learning and I enjoy sharing my own learning experiences and techniques with my students. I value student individuality so my lessons are always tailored to the student’s individual language needs. I also keep myself updated with the subject curriculum, latest materials and learning/teaching techniques which I tie into my own lessons as well as implementing my own proven successful methods (See Testimonials).

I am an expert in accent reduction (i.e. helping you sound more like a native) and helping you to develop your oral fluency. So if this is also your goal, you've definitely come to the right place! :)
